The OPP is ready for the potential ice storm, and hopes you are too. Spokesperson Bill Dickson says spring storms are tough to deal with.
He also says if you must travel, be prepared with an emergency kit in your car incase the unthinkable happens.
The brief warmer temperatures we had a couple of weeks ago even had some switching their tires. But Dickson says it doesn’t matter what kind of tires you have on your car – Ice is slippery.
In fact, like in big winter storms, Dickson suggests hunkering down for a while during this early spring freeze. He says stock up on what you need for the weekend and stay home unless you absolutely have to go out.
He does admit the timing of the storm could work to our advantage, and help reduce the number of collisions and mishaps.
He says doing so reduces traffic making it easier for cleanup crews to get their jobs done.
But if you are in a collision, stay in your vehicle if safe to do so and call 9-1-1. All police prioritize collisions and respond to the most serious first. If you’re in a minor incident but can’t move, be prepared to wait.
