The Next Generation 9-1-1 dispatch system has been delayed.
The CRTC said earlier this month most municipal, provincial, and territorial emergency services are not ready for the move as the reason for the delay.
That’s not the case with Smiths Falls, as Fire Chief Rick Chesebrough expressed frustration.
The SFFD has had a deal in place with the City of Owen Sound who will host the dispatch centre.
Chesebrough said their associated costs aren’t yet a factor.
The new system, which will allow callers to text and send videos to dispatch, is now expected to launch in March 2027.
