Riding Profile: Lanark—Frontenac
Lanark—Frontenac is a newly named federal riding set to appear on the ballot for the 2025 federal election. The name replaces Lanark–Frontenac–Kingston following a redistribution process by Elections Canada to reflect changing population patterns.
Geography
The riding includes all of Lanark County, covering towns such as Perth, Carleton Place, and Smiths Falls. It also encompasses the portion of Frontenac County located north of Highway 401, including rural areas surrounding Kingston.
Demographics
According to the 2021 census, the population is predominantly white (90.5 per cent), with Indigenous peoples making up 6.6 per cent. English is the primary language spoken by 92 per cent of residents, while 3.3 per cent speak French. Christianity remains the largest religion at 59.1 per cent, though nearly 40 per cent report no religious affiliation.
The median income is $44,400, with an average income of $54,150 as of 2020.
Scott Reid, Conservative
Reid is the longtime MP for the area. Before entering politics, he taught history at a university in Australia and advised Reform Party leader Preston Manning. He also sits on the board of Giant Tiger, a company founded by his father.
Michelle Foxton, Liberal
Foxton is a lawyer who runs a law firm in Kingston. She is a former municipal councillor in South Frontenac and lives in Hartington.
