Mississippi Mills council tackled how to handle the major changes coming to recycling next year when the province assumes responsibility and control of residential collection.
One new rule that gave them concern was that residential and non-residential recycling couldn’t be picked up on the same run.
Councillor Bev Holmes pointed out that discontinuing this service would leave farms, considered non-residential, in the lurch.
Municipal staff pointed out that running two separate pick up runs for recycling would see costs skyrocket. Councillor Dennie Ferguson didn’t hold back in his opinion on the matter.
Council directed staff to obtain options and pricing for the municipality to continue non-residential recycling and report back as well as writing a letter to Lanark-Frontenac MPP John Jordan expressing their disappointment with the entire situation.
