Scott Reid doesn’t like the sweeping tariffs Canada issued as a response to the United States implementing their own.
He said the federal government has only raised tensions.
The Lanark-Frontenac MP says that just creates a tit-for-tat with an economy much larger than ours, and is instead in favour of a targeted approach to specific industries.
Reid said while he wasn’t a fan of Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s threats of cutting off electricity, then changed to implementing a 25% surcharge, to the three states the province provides power to, the decision to pull American liquor off the LCBO shelves was a great decision and wants to see similar-minded responses federally.
Reid says those calls from fellow Republicans could lead to concerns from President Donald Trump about the mid-term elections and maintaining control of the House of Representatives, and therefore a possible reconsideration on the tariffs.
