Jesse Pauley’s name will be on the ballot representing the Green Party in Lanark-Frontenac, but there’s no campaign.
He explains why the party has put a name forth despite having no intention to secure votes.
He says there’s bigger things at play for the national party than running here with a minimal success probability.
Pauley says there’s the concern of vote splitting within Lanark-Frontenac, and they want to give a bigger party that closely aligns with their values the best possible chance to claim the seat from Conservative MP Scott Reid.
Reid was first elected in 2000 and is one of the longest sitting members. He won the 2021 election with a 48.9% share of the vote, compared to the Liberal’s Michelle Foxton’s 26.4% finish.
The Green’s have endorsed Foxton for the April 28th election.
