Lanark County Council has endorsed the updated 2025–2029 Community Plan for Safety and Well-being for Lanark County and Smiths Falls.
Community Safety and Well-being (CSWB) Coordinator Stephanie Gray presented the plan earlier this month to the community services committee on behalf of the CSWB Advisory Committee.
The update builds on the 2019 plan, which all local municipalities adopted, as required by provincial law.
The updated plan focuses on affordability, health, violence prevention, and support for priority populations. Consultations included surveys, focus groups, and data reviews. Gray said key areas of concern are housing, food security, and income, all of which are linked to other risk factors like mental health.
She also noted Lanark County’s strong history of collaboration, the need to support children and youth, and the importance of using existing community assets.
The advisory committee will now create an implementation plan.
The province requires municipalities to revisit the plan every four years.
