It’s good news all around for taxpayers.
Even though Perth council set aside $5.2 million for the reconstruction of a major section of Craig Street, including its underground infrastructure, the winning tender from Taggart Construction came in at $3.29 million.
A presentation of the project was made at Perth council’s recent committee meeting.
Our Brian Turner was there and brings us the details.
There were multiple bids on the project and reasons for the lower than expected costs as Tuner outlines.
The committee approved awarding the contract and work is expected to start later this spring. The construction zone will run from Gore Street East to the bridge with most detoured traffic expected to use alternate routes just north or south of Craig Street.
