A man from Carleton Place is facing voyeurism and firearms charges after a hidden camera was found in a local apartment.
Lanark County OPP say they responded to the incident on April 3, 2025.
A resident discovered the camera in her home and contacted police. Officers arrested a suspect the next day.
During the investigation, police also found firearms. That discovery led to several weapons charges.
Matthew Smissaert, 64, has been charged with voyeurism, possession of a prohibited device, four counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, and five counts of careless storage of a firearm.
Police say the accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court in Perth on April 7.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Lanark County OPP are asking anyone with information related to this case to come forward.
