Like all recurring and successful community events, things evolve to improve and Perth’s Trashure Hunt is no exception as it’s been renamed The Great Perth Pick-up and will happen on a new and very appropriate day, Earth Day, April 22.
Perth’s Community Services Director Cathy McNally explains.
She reports why she and Perth’s Climate Change Advisory Panel thought the switch from a Saturday to a Tuesday would get more people out.
McNally says school response has been terrific and 6 schools will participate, each looking after their neighbourhood or other community areas that may interest them.
Non-student participants will still head to the Crystal Palace as in past years for bags, gloves, and suggestions on what areas to cover.
This year, all the garbage collected will be weighed to provide a concrete measurement of The Great Perth Pick-up’s success. Participants will also have a chance to win prizes as a thank-you for their efforts.
