Hometown heroes to be honoured at the 2025 Perth & District Sports Hall of Fame ceremony
The Perth & District Sports Hall of Fame is getting ready to welcome four new inductees at its 2025 ceremony.
The free event will take place on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 244 in Perth. Refreshments will be served, and donations are appreciated.
The Hall’s Tim Zander announced this year’s class on myFM. This year’s inductees are Sultana Frizell, Keith Cavanagh, Neil Fennell, and the ice dance team of Erin Gillespie and John Paul Nagle.
Frizell (pictured at top) is a decorated hammer thrower who held the Canadian hammer throw record for 14 years.
Cavanagh (first pic) was a standout in outboard boat racing in the 1950s, winning several championships.
Fennell (second pic) is being honoured in the Builder category. Neil is known for founding the Perth Invitational Fastball Tournament.
Over the years, the tournament raised more than $140,000 for local charities.
Meanwhile, Gillespie and Nagle are in the Team category, who made history for the Perth Figure Skating Club.
The Hall of Fame celebrates local athletes and builders who have made a big impact in their sport.
