The head of a former Rideau Lakes cat rescue has been charged with fraud.
Johanna Cake, the 33-year-old CEO of Eastern Ontario Cats, was arrested Wednesday, April 30, following a months-long investigation by Leeds County OPP and Animal Welfare Services.
The probe began last October after complaints were made about the condition of cats in the rescue’s care—along with questions surrounding how donations and expenses were being handled.
Cake is now facing five fraud-related charges including Fraud over $5,000, Fraud under $5,000 (x2), Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, and Obtaining by false pretence-over.
Cake’s due in court May 30th in Brockville.
