Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched an investigation after a 15-month-old child was seriously injured in a driveway incident involving an OPP officer in the Oxford Mills area.
The incident happened just after noon on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Police say an Ontario Provincial Police member was moving a personal vehicle in their driveway when the vehicle struck the child.
The toddler was rushed to a regional trauma centre and is being treated for serious injuries.
Grenville County OPP and the East Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team are assisting with the investigation.
The SIU, which investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault, has invoked its mandate.
There will be no further updates from the SIU or the OPP until a ruling is made on whether charges against the officer involved are warranted.
