
Nearly 60% of students who responded to an Upper Canada District School Board survey don’t feel comfortable using the school washrooms.
The survey had a 54.9% response rate.
Vaping has become a growing concern around the board, which often takes place in the bathroom.
Student Trustee Maheen Riaz says there’s a legitimate fear among the student body.
Executive Superintendent Eric Hardie says they’re working to address the issue.
Hardie says they’re getting mixed responses from students as to how to curb vaping.
In the March survey, students also felt a three percent decrease in sense of belonging and noted a six percent increase in bullying compared to the October results.
