Police say if you get a call like this, hang up right away. Then, call the person directly using a number you already know—not one the caller gives you.
If someone claims to be police, hang up and contact your local police using a verified number.
The scammers often create fake emergencies and pressure victims to send money quickly, sometimes asking for cash or cryptocurrency.
Police say the Canadian justice system does not accept bail through either method.
