Foley Mountain will never be the same, thanks to the parting gift of its longtime Friends.
Friends of Foley Mountain, a charitable group that has supported the conservation area since 1996, announced this spring it is disbanding after 29 years.
Former Board President Rob Struthers says recruitment’s been a challenge in recent years.
Struthers says they’ve seen so much support over their time as a board.
The group raised nearly $400,000 to fund education programs, bus subsidies, and major site upgrades like accessible washrooms and the Spy Rock ramp.
Founded by Barry and Peri McQuay in 1996 to save the site’s outdoor education programs, the group was met with overwhelming community support from day one.
Though the group is winding down, fundraising will continue through the Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation’s new Foley Fund.
