Smiths Falls council approved the replacement of equipment lost in the public works building fire in February, which remains inhospitable.
Public Works and Utilities Director Paul McMunn said the Air Care Drive blaze mainly impacted the north side of the building which was home to their equipment.
Councillor Dawn Quinn said while it’s an unfortunate expense, it’s necessary to buy now.
$868,447,86 was made available to the town from their respective insurers covering the loss of other equipment, some of which will not be replaced.
Council did however agree to replace a street sweeper and one plow, and buy a second plow truck, which combined costs $329,716,14.
The vehicles are expected to arrive by December.
