The Town of Smiths Falls has lowered its flags to half-mast to honour The Reverend Gervis Beecher Black, who passed away after a life of remarkable public service.
Black served as a town councillor from 1966 to 1969 and made a lasting impact in the United Church of Canada, preaching in multiple Ontario communities, including Smiths Falls.
He was also known for hosting CJOH’s “Quest” TV program for seven years, running for Parliament, and serving as a special assistant to the Minister of Transport.
Black’s sermons reached more than 2,000 people weekly, including national broadcasts.
The town extends heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
