Police in Smiths Falls have shared new details about the arrest of a 29-year-old woman. Part of the incident was captured on civilian video and posted to social media.
The woman was arrested on Saturday, June 7th after police were called to two different scenes in the span of two hours.
At 9 p.m., police responded to a Lombard Street home for reports of threats and assault. At 11 p.m., the same woman was arrested after allegedly throwing a table at a Main Street business and being aggressive with customers and staff.
Police say the woman was already on probation. She allegedly spit and kicked at police. That’s when police say an officer intervened. That portion was caught on video. It shows the woman being dragged from the back of the cruiser, taken down to ground, then subdued by the officer who appears to put his knee down on her upper-back or neck.
The woman now faces several charges, including mischief, assaulting police, and violating probation. The suspect refused medical care and was sent to OCDC. A bail hearing was set for Monday, June 9 in Perth.
Police say more information will be released once the investigation is complete.
A statement on the matter from Police Chief Jodi Empey is also expected soon.
