Lanark Highlands Fire Chief Stephen Rothwell
Lanark Highlands is on the path to close its Tatlock Hall fire station by next June.
The station has six volunteer firefighters and recently recruited three more, but the call response times don’t meet provincial standards largely due to only one member being in the area during the day.
On top of that there’s a financial aspect of keeping four stations open instead of three, as Deputy Reeve Bill King says.
Fire Chief Stephen Rothwell dove more into the finance side of the proposal when looking at their ongoing total fleet replacement.
Due to minimal personnel, Rothwell said some calls in the Tatlock region have seen members from the Middleville station arrive first.
The tentative closure date is June 30, 2026. There will be public consultation and further reports and council debate along the way which will incorporate thoughts from residents.
Rothwell said the plan is to have the first public session held in the fall.
