Lanark County council recently heard the 2024 Housing and Homelessness Report from Director of Social Service Emily Hollington.
Hollington went over some numbers, including a significant spike in youth homelessness.
Audio PlayerThe staff report says the 21 additional youth added to the By-Name List (BNL) was an increase of 334% from 2023.
99 households were removed from the BNL as well.
The BNL is a list individuals dealing with vagrancy can register to and receive county support. It’s entirely optional, meaning it most likely does not reflect the true statistics around homelessness across Lanark County.
Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell said on recent tours of high schools, the topic of homelessness has been brought up on every occasion.
Audio PlayerHollington was asked by Perth Mayor Judy Brown what became of the 16 individuals displaced by the Harvey St. fire in 2023.
