This Saturday June 21st the runners will be once again donning their finest kilts to take part in the legendary Perth Kilt Run. Race Co-director Terry Stewart gives us the details and history.
The first race, The Royal Mile starts at 5 pm with the wee lads and lasses heading out at 5:25 and 5:35. Race Co-director Heather Domereckyj fills us in on temporary street closures.
Runners travel to Perth from across the county and around the world for this event and 10K kilts have been brought in for those runners without one.
As far as the challenges in running in a kilt in the summer, Terry says, the weather under a kilt is always perfect. A run of this size doesn’t happen without an army of sponsors and volunteers as Domereckyj explains who’s involved.
In addition there’s Contrans, Perth Metro, Barnabe’s Independent Grocers, Perth Combat Club, Mortgages 613, Canada Home Stay Network and OMYA. The Crystal Palace will be the home for the live music of the event with tunes starting at 2 pm and playing until 10 pm and it’s open to runners and non-runners alike.
There will also be eight community organization cheering stations providing support as well as water and first-aid, all competing for the chance to win some cash for their causes.
