Students at The Stewart School are making waves in the community with a creative safety campaign that shares fire, water, and personal safety tips.
The Real-World Learning project started when Grade 1/2 teacher Cara Dean read an article about smoke alarm awareness. Inspired, her class researched safety topics and wrote journal entries, later expanding their efforts with help from the school’s Grade 5/6 media team.
Together, the students created educational videos complete with scripts, props, and green screen effects. The final products feature young hosts sharing important safety tips in fun, engaging ways.
To get the word out, students designed postcards with QR codes linking to their videos. A local print shop supported the project by offering a discount, and the cards are now available at the Perth Library and local restaurants.
This hands-on initiative taught students valuable skills while promoting safety across the Perth community.
