Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County (BBBSLC) has received an $89,700 Seed grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support new mentorship programs for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
On Friday, June 13th, MPP John Jordan met with the BBBSLC team to recognize their work and celebrate the launch of the initiative.
The new funding will support group and one-on-one mentoring through the Prism Youth Group and Prism Mentorship programs, which aim to build self-confidence, foster pride, and provide trusted adult role models for up to 30 youth across the county.
The project also includes hiring a full-time coordinator, screening and training volunteers, and engaging families to support participating youth.
BBBSLC says the goal is to help at-risk 2SLGBTQIA+ youth grow into confident and contributing adults.
Founded in 1973, BBBSLC has provided decades of mentoring support to local children and youth.
