A search for a person who went overboard while fishing near the Appleton Dam turned to a recovery effort, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on June 28, an individual fell into the water while fishing below the dam. Emergency crews, including Lanark OPP and the OPP Marine Unit, responded quickly, using both a civilian boat and police vessel to search the area.
Some of the individual’s belongings were recovered that evening. The search resumed the next morning using an OPP drone.
Police have confirmed that the investigation has now shifted to a recovery mission. The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit attended the scene yesterday.
At this time, no details about the individual will be released. Police say next of kin have not been notified, as they are currently out of the country.
The dam remains shut down during the search efforts.
