Two artists are celebrating big wins after this year’s Rideau Artist of the Year competition.
The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum awarded the $1,000 grand prize to Westport’s Lorraine Gravelle for her painting Joy on the Rideau, inspired by the joy of starting fresh.
Fifteen-year-old Smiths Falls resident Anita Garvin took home the $250 youth prize for her unique mixed media piece Foster’s Hidden Gems, which shows a creative view of a decommissioned lock station.
Over 20 regional artists competed in the en plein air contest, where they had 12 hours to paint the landscape and submit their work for jury review.
The winning artwork is now on display at the museum, located at 11 Old Slys Road.
Visitors can see the exhibit Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until July 12 and vote for the People’s Choice award.
