The Friends of the Tay Watershed have named Renée Joyce Rinfret, a Grade 12 student at St. John Catholic High School, as the 2025 recipient of their $1,000 Water Guardian Bursary.
The award recognizes Renée’s strong passion for water and environmental justice. She impressed the committee with her many activities, including representing her school at the 2024 Frontenac Arch Biosphere Youth Climate Action Summit. She also helped lead clean water workshops during Just Us Youth Day.
Renée plans to study Early Childhood Education at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
The Friends of the Tay say her dedication to water issues will inspire future generations of water stewards.
The Water Guardian Bursary is given each year to a local high school or former high school student committed to environmental protection.
