Residents in Smiths Falls can expect to see a heightened police presence today on Empress Avenue as officers carry out a search warrant tied to an ongoing missing person investigation.
Ontario Provincial Police confirm the operation is connected to the 2023 disappearance of Robbie Thomson. There is no threat to public safety.
The search involves members of the OPP Crime Unit, Emergency Response Team, and Forensic Identification Services, along with officers from the Smiths Falls Police Service.

Thomson is one of three ongoing high profile missing person files the OPP is working alongside the Smiths Falls Police Service.
Lawrence Bertim went missing in 2022 and Steven Tate was found dead a week after he was reported missing in October 2023.
Police have never publicly stated any connection to the cases, with the men believed to have known each other.
