Terrilee Kelford is asking the public to stop posting photos of tents you may see around town.
The long-time homeless advocate and career counsellor says it’s drawing attention to an already vulnerable sector, and you should respect their privacy.
The chair of Cornerstone Landing Youth Services told myFM she understands people are upset about the homelessness crisis but she’s calling on residents to step up.
You can help the vulnerable sector by volunteering at your local food bank, donate essential items to varying support organizations or by learning more about the crisis.
Kelford reminds everyone that these individuals are already struggling, and reading negative comments doesn’t do any good.
She said she started her advocation 25 years ago when she learned of people in the area living in tents and under bridges, so there’s nothing new about what the community has been seeing lately, it just become more prominent as the crisis evolves.
