Sue Carlson and Catherine Brown, granddaughters of the famed WWI flying ace Roy Brown visited his home town of Carleton Place recently to honour their family patriarch and share fond memories.
Catherine said her grandfather wasn’t comfortable in the limelight when he returned home at the end of the war.
Catherine spoke of a letter the Captain wrote home after examining the wrecked plane and body of the Red Baron, shortly after his death in air battle.
Captain A. Roy Brown died in 1944 at the age of 50.
Catherine now lives in Toronto and Sue recently and coincidentally moved to Franklin, Tennessee, Carleton Place’s twin city.
She was quite pleased when she discovered that connection.
