Drivers will need to stay patient a little longer, as Parks Canada says the Kilmarnock Swing Bridge on Kilmarnock Road will remain closed to vehicles until July 30, 2025.
The extra time is needed to finish scheduled repairs that will help the bridge work better and last longer.
A detour is in place, and signs will guide traffic around the area.
The good news? Boaters on the Rideau Canal won’t be affected. Parks Canada says canal navigation and regular operations at the site will continue as usual.
The Kilmarnock Swing Bridge is part of the Rideau Canal National Historic Site. It plays an important role in both local transportation and the region’s history.
Parks Canada thanked the public for their understanding and support during the extended closure.
