The South East Health Unit (SEHU) is investigating an unusual number of salmonella cases potentially linked to the Rocky River Café on Wilson Street in Perth, Ontario. Individuals who ate at the café on or around July 15, 2025, and have experienced symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, nausea, or vomiting are urged to contact SEHU immediately.
Salmonella is a bacteria that causes gastroenteritis and can lead to more serious illness. Symptoms usually appear within six to 72 hours after exposure. The infection can spread from person to person through contaminated hands or objects.
If you have symptoms after dining at Rocky River Café, call SEHU toll-free at 1-800-660-5853 ext. 2222 or provide information online.
Those experiencing symptoms should seek medical care by contacting their healthcare provider, calling Health Care Connect at 811, or visiting www.virtualcareontario.ca.
To prevent further spread:
- Wash hands thoroughly after bathroom use, diaper changes, and before handling food.
- Avoid preparing or serving food if you have diarrhea or vomiting.
- Food handlers, childcare workers, and healthcare workers should stay home until symptom-free for at least 48 hours.
- Children with symptoms should stay home from school, daycare, or camp until 48 hours symptom-free.
As part of the investigation, SEHU has issued a closure order to the Rocky River Cafe under Section 13 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
They’re working closely with the restaurant operators to ensure that any risk is eliminated, and the restaurant will remain closed until a full inspection determines the premises is safe to reopen.
