Terrilee Kelford is a local and national homelessness advocate, and says it continues to rise in rural communities.
But what she finds frustrating is people who don’t seem to believe it’s in their own small town.
She says just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there.
Kelford started her advocation 25 years ago because there were locals living in tents and under bridges and she wanted to help.
She now chairs Cornerstone Landing Youth Services, which supports those aged 16 to 24 struggling with housing and offers various programs.
On top of her local work, she also co-chairs the National Alliance to End Rural and Remote Homelessness.
Kelford provided staggering figures when asked by myFM about the rise of homelessness in the area.
The mentioned growth is over a four-year period. You can read the report here.
