The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) came under fire from Mississippi Mills council recently with the news that the MVCA may divest itself of the R Tait MacKenzie and James Naismith exhibits at the Mill of Kintail, which one board member calling it a long-time coming.
North Frontenac Councillor and MVCA Board Chair Roy Huetl told myFM news nothing has been decided to date.
The MVCA currently has signed agreements from all of its member municipalities to fund the museum until 2029.
Huetl says his board is taking a long-term view and is planning in advance.
Huetl pointed to the federal government ending summer student wage assistance 2 years ago as an example of how unreliable certain funding sources can be. He stated that this issue with the museum’s future is not new.
Huetl admitted that neither the Leys or Naismith families, the donors of much of the exhibit’s collections, have been consulted as that was deemed premature.
We’ll bring you the latest on this as it becomes available.
