The Town of Smiths Falls is calling on residents and businesses to take part in a lead testing program to help protect local drinking water.
A certified Water Treatment Operator will visit participating homes or businesses to test for lead. The town notes lead is a soft metal that can harm human health, even at low exposure levels.
Properties built before 1955 may be at greater risk because of older plumbing. Officials say community participation is vital to ensure safe drinking water for everyone.
