Tay Valley Township is asking residents, businesses and visitors to share their views on municipal services through a new community survey.
The township says the goal is to evaluate the services it provides and better understand which ones are most important to quality of life. Officials explain that “levels of service” is a key term in asset management, describing the quality of a municipal service and its impact on cost, performance and risk.
For example, improving the smoothness of local roads would be considered a higher level of service, but it would also come with added taxpayer costs. Reducing service levels may save money but could increase risks and shorten infrastructure life.
The survey is part of Ontario Regulation 588/17, which requires municipalities to prepare asset management plans and define levels of service.
