In June of this year Lanark County approved $2.1 million in funding from the Canada-Ontario Early Learning and Child Care Infrastructure program to Mississippi Mills for the creation of 78 additional child care spaces at a new centre.
On August 14th, ground-breaking ceremony on an already-excavated site was held in Almonte. When asked about the quick turnaround, Mayor Christa Lowry gave credit to staff.
Christa asked everyone in attendance to clear their calendars next fall to celebrate the opening of the facility.
These spaces, in addition to expansion of other programs have made a real difference to local parents as Christa notes.
The new centre will almost double the number of municipally operated spaces in the Mills as housing development continues to increase.
