Back for its 174th edition on Saturday September 13th, the Middleville Fair remains true to its rural and agricultural roots. You won’t find a midway or rides, but instead there will be plenty of opportunities to learn about farming life in a real family-friendly atmosphere. Marg MacNeill with the Middleville Agricultural Society gives us some hints on what to expect.
Marg tells us of the army of faithful volunteers that help put on the fair every year.
One family can trace their fair volunteer duties back to the very beginning. The enclosure around the fairgrounds means it’s a child-safe event with plenty of activities such as games, hand-sawing contests, and much more. Marg says it’s a great opportunity to learn for those not from a farming background.
The gates open at 10 am with a $7 admission fee and children under seven get in for free. The day ends with the Fair’s legendary home-cooked turkey dinner with all the fixings; a Lanark bargain at only $25 for adults, children six to twelve pay $15 and those five and under eat free when accompanied by an adult.
