Ontario is expanding its Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) prevention program to include everyone aged 75 and older.
The government says the move will help protect vulnerable people this fall and winter, while reducing pressure on the health-care system.
Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones highlighted the ages most affected by RSV.
Ontario’s RSV program already covers high-risk adults aged 60 to 74, infants up to eight months in their first season, high-risk children up to 24 months, and pregnant women.
Jones explains why the province is widening access.
She adds that the move will also support the health-care system.
Health officials say the program is a key step in protecting Ontarians ahead of respiratory illness season.
