More than 10,000 full-time support workers at Ontario’s 24 public colleges, including Algonquin College’s Perth Campus, are on strike.
Chris McMahon, a Picket Captain with OPSEU and worker at Algonquin College, says the move follows stalled talks.
OPSEU says the walkout is about ensuring employment for their members. McMahon echoed those thoughts.
The future of the Perth Campus is also top of mind. McMahon says fighting its planned closure is another reason to walk.
Algonquin confirmed classes will continue, though some services may be delayed. McMahon says that’s not what he or his fellow picketers want.
Negotiations remain ongoing.
The college asks students to check their email for updates.
