Perth council’s committee discussed a letter received from the Elmwood Cemetery Board concerned about MTO’s plans to permanently close the entrance of Dufferin Road to Drummond Street West and instead install a new access point just east of Blair and Son’s Furniture as part of their redesign plans for Highway 7.
Deputy Mayor Ed McPherson stated he had safety concerns with the proposal.
The cemetery is located on Dufferin Road and McPherson notes the typical demographic attending grave services add to the problem.
Councillors agreed that they had been asking for safety improvements to the highway intersection with Drummond West for years and that MTO has sole authority on the design.
