Rideau Lakes council is requesting a meeting with the province in hopes to establish bass spawning sanctuaries across their lakes to help the declining population.
Councillor Ron Pollard said the catch-and-release fishing method causes damage to the population too.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom dove further into the concerns.

Currently there are two bass spawning sanctuaries on Opinicon and Charleston Lakes.
