This is Rail Safety Week, a time for Smiths Falls Police, other first responders, and the rail companies to educate the public on how to be around crossings and trains safely.
Constable Sean Keogan says it’s very important in the town of Smiths Falls.
And he says it won’t be too long before the cold weather arrives too.
Keogan says that overall, the message is getting across, and we’re lucky that the population has grown up around tracks.
Held annually in September, Rail Safety Week also offers and opportunity to inform the public about the risks of trespassing and not obeying signs and signals at grade crossings.
