The fundraising committee for the new G. Tackaberry & Family Home in Athens is in the final stretch of its campaign, aiming to raise the last $400,000 needed to reach a $3 million goal.
The committee has already secured $2.6 million, representing 87 per cent of the target. Supporters are thanking George Tackaberry for his “Double Your Donation” pledge, which will match contributions up to $50,000 until October 1.
Donations will support extras like TVs, resident lifts, advanced technology, and landscaping at the new 192-room long-term care home, which will replace Maple View Lodge. Fundraising has included contributions from individuals, families, community groups, and local businesses, with naming rights available for wings and common spaces.
Construction is on budget and nearing completion, with residents expected to move in this fall. Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke urged the community to help “provide amenities that improve the everyday lives of our residents.”
