This year’s Radiothon for Local Healthcare will take place on October 16th from 8 am until 6pm.
Founder Brian Perkin says it a tradition, and all involved are grateful for the support the community has shown over the years.
This year, the Radiothon supports four groups: The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation, The Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Almonte General Hospital Fairview Manor Foundation, and ConnectWell.
For the first time, the Radiothon will span two stations. It returns to 88.1 myFM based out of Perth, and debuts on Smiths’ Falls 92.3 WOW FM.
All funds raised go to support equipment purchases and programs for patients. While government fund hospitals, they don’t pay for equipment. The community pays for that vital equipment through fundraisers and events like the Radiothon.
Perkin says donors like to interact with the hosts when donations are read, with many sharing personal reasons why donating is important to them.
It takes a village to make it happen too. Volunteers from each organization represented will be joining the radio teams in working the phones throughout the day, and basically doing whatever is needed to pull off the 10-hour broadcast.
The Radiothon for Local Healthcare begins right after the 8 o’clock news on Thursday, October 16th and wraps up with the grand total announcement just before 6 o’clock.
