Rideau Lakes agreed to spend up to $10,000 to repair the roof on the Chantry municipal office by implementing a protective coating staff say will buy council another year or two before a replacement is needed.
The approval is pending a second vote at their next council meeting.
The staff report highlighted significant costs to replace the roof outright, as well as over $70,000 to repair the sanitation issues.
Councillor Paula Banks made her opinion clear when addressing Mayor Arie Hoogenboom.
Councillor Jeff Banks is also frustrated with these half-measures for the same reason.
Hoogenboom has implemented strong mayor powers which have stopped previous council attempts to put an office retrofit project out to tender.
Staff pegged a new steel roof at $450,000 or a metal roof over the existing one at $325,000.
They also estimated a cost of over $70,000 to repair the sanitation concerns the building has, but noted a full replacement can wait until council decides on a direction for the building.
