The main hall in the Perth Legion was standing room only on September 25th with residents eager to hear of a plan to keep the Perth College open after Algonquin announced that it will close in August of next year.
Local entrepreneur Toby Shannan laid out his proposal to keep the current trade programs going and to expand the offerings. He said he was surprised at the large turnout.
Shannan noted that the growth of AI was spurring a trend in young people to turn to a career in building trades.
Spokesperson for the Save Perth College group and retired Dean of Algonquin College’s Perth campus, Chris Hahn, believes the Group has a good chance to succeed.
Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan, who attended the rally, stated the involved Ministers of his government are behind efforts to keep the college open.
Shannan urged those attending to voice their support to Premiere Doug Ford, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, David Piccini, Minister of Colleges and Universities Nolan Quinn, and area MPP John Jordan (see their email addresses below).
