
Here’s what’s up!
There are several events marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across our listening area.
Smiths Falls hosts a community ceremony. Participants can gather at 5 p.m. in Centennial Park before walking to the Healing Circle on Duck Island for remarks from Mayor Shawn Pankow and Tim Bisaillon, honouring survivors of the Residential School System and their families.
An Orange Shirt Day Ceremony will be held at the Indigenous Healing Circle at Last Dual Park at 5:30, in Perth. Led by local Indigenous leaders, the event honours Residential School children. All are welcome.
A community gathering for reflection for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation will take place in Carleton Place at 1:30 p.m. in Riverside Park at the Mississippi River Gathering Place – Misi Zibi Mamidosewin. All are welcome to join in singing, drumming, learning, and remembrance.
And Reconciliation Through Art continues in Almonte. There’s a Water Walk at 8:00 AM beginning at the Old Town Hall and an Indigenous Art Showcase & Teachings starting at 10:00 AM at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum.
Tomorrow: Weekly bingo at the Perth Civitan Hall is back. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 7 p.m. Free admission; purchase bingo cards as desired.
Local Sports:
In the CCHL this week: Smiths Falls is in Kemptville at 7:00 tomorrow. Then, on Friday they host the Renfrew Wolves at 7:30. On Sunday, they head back to Kemptville for a game at 2:00pm. The Carleton Place Canadians are off until Sunday when they welcome Hawkesbury.
EOJHL play this week has the Smiths Falls Jr. Bears hosting the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians on Thursday at 7:30. On Friday the Perth Blue Wings host the Ottawa Jr. Canadians at 7:30. Saturday sees Carleton Place head to Glengarry to take on the Brigade at 8:00, while Smiths Falls welcomes Athens a 7:30.
