Residents are invited to gather on at 5:30 p.m. for an Orange Shirt Day Ceremony at the Indigenous Healing Circle – at the Perth Healing Forest Memorial Site.
The event will honour residential school survivors and remember the children who never returned home, and is supported by the Lanark County Neighbours for Truth and Reconciliation.
Spokesperson Ramsey Hart says he believes progress is being made locally on the education front.
Hart says the ceremony is open to anyone who’d like to attend. Organizers say Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 with Phyllis Jack Webstad.
Webstad has said that wearing orange today is a form of justice for survivors.
All are encouraged to wear orange too as a sign of respect and commitment to ongoing learning about the history of residential schools and the Calls to Action.
Organizers say the message remains clear: stand up, speak up, and remember that every child matters.
The Perth Healing Forest Memorial Site can be found at 35 Craig Street.
