The HART Hub in Brockville is now operating a satellite facility in Smiths Falls.
Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (or HART) Hubs are part of the provincial strategy to eliminate safe drug injection sites near daycares and schools.
MPP John Jordan says the HUB in Brockville is getting closer to being ready, and the local operation has started with some services.
The province calls the HUBs game-changers for providing life-changing and life-saving help to vulnerable people in the region.
The HART Hub connects people with complex needs to: comprehensive treatment services, preventative services, mental health supports, and social supports among others. Jordan calls the work vital.
In some cases, the HUBs have been greeted with some resistance by neighbours concerned about having the services in the community. Jordan says, they haven’t recieve many complaints about the local offerings.
The Smiths Falls satellite site will feature eight treatment beds and nine transitional housing beds.
While withdrawal support will be provided from Brockville, residents of Smiths Falls and Lanark County will continue to have full access to these services.
